Ibn Sina made distinction between ‘force’ and ‘inclination’ (called “mayl”), and argued that an object gained mayl when the thing is in opposition to its pure movement. So he concluded that continuation of motion is attributed to the inclination that’s transferred to the thing, and that object might be in motion till the mayl is spent. He also claimed that projectile in a vacuum would not cease except it’s acted upon. This conception of motion is according to Newton’s first legislation of motion, inertia. Which states that an object in movement will keep in movement except it’s acted on by an exterior pressure.
